List of tribes in Erzurum Province

A detailed list of tribes in Erzurum province in prepared by the British Consul in Erzurum at the time, Mr Lamb (1901)

Document published in the Confidential Print Series of the British Foreign Office, held in the National Archives, London.

Lamb's list is one of a series of similar sources compiled by British representatives in the area, apparently part of a concerted effort of the British Goverment to collect information on the social fabric of the population. Like the extensive list compiled by Military Attache F.R. Maunsell in 1904, Lamb's list not only contains names of tribes but also data on numbers, location, tribal leaders etc.

The names of the tribes in this source are included in the alphabetical Tribes Index on this website
